kelsey and jenna

it was my mom's birthday yesterday and we went out to dinner to celebrate. after our meal while waiting for the check, the waiter says to my sister kelsey, "can i tell you something? you know jenna bush? you look exactly like her." kelsey was like, "oh... thanks." the waiter then said, "of course! your eyes are the same. oh don't look so worried, it's a good thing."

so now we're walking to the car and i'm like, "kelsey, that was nice of him to say that you look like jenna bush. she's pretty!" kelsey then replied with, "she's a fat cow."
that's the end of that.

decide for yourself...

it's time...

for a new post. i have been crazy busy with finals and packing and moving and saying goodbye/crying and mission stuff and vacationing... i'll stop there.

1. finals: i had three papers and only one exam to take so i was finished early. it was a pretty chill semester. i am offically finished with all of my general education classes! sweetness.

2. packing: it's not my favorite thing in the world but i would have to say that packing is much better than unpacking. when you pack you can just throw everything in a box and leave but unpacking is much more thought out and everything needs a "place." it's a nightmare.

3. moving: i'm back in vegas. it's good to be home. i had no problems saying goodbye to dreadful utah-land. the weather = miserable. welcome home to sunshine. i am happy about that. my family is here too so that's perfect.

4. saying goodbye/crying: yes, you read that right... crying. it's been brutal saying goodbye to my friends in provo. tears almost everytime for every person. it's hard especially because they could be gone and married, living across the country or who knows what. it's a killer. i can't even waste time thinking about how bad it will be saying goodbye to my family. don't get me started.

5. mission stuff: i've been packing/getting together all of the mission stuff. it's been pretty interesting. i don't know how i'm going to fit everything into two suitcases... pray for me.

6. vacationing: kelsey, kaley and i went to southern california for our last trip before the mission. we enjoyed the beach for two days and then went to disneyland for a day. it was such a blast. the weather was awesome (normal for california) and the trip couldn't have been better.

food for friendship

i'm generally a friendly person... a social person who enjoys the company of others. i strike up conversation with strangers while in a doctor's office lobby or the post office getting my passport or waiting for an oil change. all of these places are seemingly boring and often unpleasant but i want to have a good experience and make new friends. however, i especially make friends with the people who give me food.

here are a couple examples... this list is not exclusive.
1. dane our first true waiter love. he works at chili's and he knows what we want to get everytime. this man is such a gem.
2. brett... the sexiest man i know. he also works at chili's and is usually the bartender but when dane wasn't our waiter he took over one time. he liked us too and gave us a free dessert. thank you brett, you are so fine.
3. kelly at the smokehouse. this one is pretty recent. i had my birthday dinner there and she is such a doll. everytime kaley and i go back she gives us her discount which results in a higher tip for her. it's a win-win situation.
4. justine at ihop. this lady was the only one working really late one night. she was clearly exhausted but still doing her best. we befriended her and she proceeded to tell us her life story and all about her 5 children.
5. bryan at the pita pit. now this man is something else. he is totally chill and calls kaley "hawaiian girl" because she looks like she lives at the beach. everytime we go there he makes us a new pita combination that isn't on the menu... top secret special recipes.

tonight was no exception. we went to the malt shoppe (i hate that spelling) and ordered a couple shakes. we have ordered and pull up to the window where wayne is there to greet us. i hand him the debit card and after charging the card, he notices that kaley and i are laughing over something she said (not about him). while handing the card back he asks us, "you ladies having fun?" i reply while laughing, "she's driving me nuts." no joke, he then says this, "sometimes what you need most is a little bit of nuts." he then winks. we hold in our laughter until after he shuts the drive thru window and then kaley and i completely lose it. he returns a little later and hands over our shakes while grinning and says, "here you are. there were made with the utmost love and care." wow.

here is dane... our friend.

head over heels

kaley and i went to the park today to enjoy the sun and "study" for finals. fyi, i think we got about 15 minutes of actual study time in. naps are a wonderful distraction. so at our park there is a little gravel bike/walking trail that outlines the grass in the middle. we are laying on a blanket close to the edge of the bike path. we see this cute, little hispanic boy probably about 6 years old riding his bike really fast. he is panting by the time he approaches us on the grass. i mean this kid is booking it around this bike trail.

i decide to wave at the little guy just to say hi because he is working so hard and is adorable. he looks at me, smiles, and while he lifts his hand off the handlebar to wave to me, he completely loses control of the bike! homie flew over his handlebars in what seemed like a 10 second slow-motion fall to the ground.

immediate feelings i experienced:
1. shock (did he really just fly over his handlebars?!)
2. embarrassment (this kid must be mortified)
3. guilt (if i wouldn't have been so dumb and waved at the kid, he wouldn't have crashed)
4. panic (is this little guy hurt at all?)
5. lawsuit (his parents will sue me for medical bills)

the kid is now in the fetal position on the grass about 10 feet from kaley and me. i rush over to the poor little man and kneel down to make sure he is ok. our delightful conversation is as follows:
me: "hey buddy are you ok?"
kid: no response, no eye contact...nothing
me: "is your mommy here?"
kid: his head is down
me: "who is here with you?"
kid: still nothing
me: "let me help you up. i'm so sorry little man."
kid: hobbles over to his bike and speeds away

i really felt bad for this little guy. as i am walking back towards the blanket where kaley is sitting wide-eyed, we both say at the exact same time, "blogworthy."

so there you have it... the bike crash i caused of the darling hispanic boy.

time is short

so i FINALLY saw juno last weekend. for those of you living in the dark ages, it is the movie about a teenager who gets pregnant. the critics loved it and my friends have been raving about it. all i hear is how clever and witty the script is, how it's well-acted and just a great movie. well maybe it's just me, but that sweet little movie had me crying like a baby! i don't really get emotional either so for me to cry in a movie is a big deal. the other two movies i've cried in are edward scissorhands and beaches. so juno brought me to tears. i can't even describe what it was exactly. the music was perfect. the acting was dead-on and i really got involved. jennifer garner = amazing. ellen page = the future. yes the script is brilliant but to all of you who haven't seen it yet, don't feel weird if you cry. it happens...

story time! there is this boy in our astronomy class who is insane. one day he got into an argument with the teacher about whether or not the americans truly landed on the moon! are you kidding me. the kid, who kaley has named "meathead," was like, "do you really think we landed on the moon?" the professor was like, "yes, i know for a fact that we have because i've met the men who landed on the moon and they just aren't the type to make up stories." meathead then said, "well i have my doubts. i think it was a conspiracy against the russians." he's serious too.

then we were looking at the stars on the planetarium ceiling, more specifically constellations of the zodiac like leo and cancer and aries, etc and meathead decides to shout out (it was dark but we knew immediately by the voice that meathead was calling), "did these guys just have a really good imagination because this doesn't make any sense, man!" so that was funny and it totally made my teacher feel ridiculous beacuse meathead made it sound like the teacher's expertise was a fairy-tale.

last day of class is tomorrow. my time in provo is short. i am done with finals this saturday (sweetness) but have to wait around in provo for a week for kaley to finish all her exams and what not... i will be bored to tears for that week. we are vegas bound on the 26th! then, we are off to california for a beach vacation. it's kaley's birthday present to me.

ps: i will be in italy soon... i still laugh when i think about it. it's unreal.
