kaley and i went to the park today to enjoy the sun and "study" for finals. fyi, i think we got about 15 minutes of actual study time in. naps are a wonderful distraction. so at our park there is a little gravel bike/walking trail that outlines the grass in the middle. we are laying on a blanket close to the edge of the bike path. we see this cute, little hispanic boy probably about 6 years old riding his bike really fast. he is panting by the time he approaches us on the grass. i mean this kid is booking it around this bike trail.
i decide to wave at the little guy just to say hi because he is working so hard and is adorable. he looks at me, smiles, and while he lifts his hand off the handlebar to wave to me, he completely loses control of the bike! homie flew
over his handlebars in what seemed like a 10 second slow-motion fall to the ground.
immediate feelings i experienced:
1. shock (did he really just fly over his handlebars?!)
2. embarrassment (this kid must be mortified)
3. guilt (if i wouldn't have been so dumb and waved at the kid, he wouldn't have crashed)
4. panic (is this little guy hurt at all?)
5. lawsuit (his parents will sue me for medical bills)
the kid is now in the fetal position on the grass about 10 feet from kaley and me. i rush over to the poor little man and kneel down to make sure he is ok. our delightful conversation is as follows:
me: "hey buddy are you ok?"
kid: no response, no eye contact...nothing
me: "is your mommy here?"
kid: his head is down
me: "who is here with you?"
kid: still nothing
me: "let me help you up. i'm so sorry little man."
kid: hobbles over to his bike and speeds away
i really felt bad for this little guy. as i am walking back towards the blanket where kaley is sitting wide-eyed, we both say at the exact same time, "blogworthy."
so there you have it... the bike crash
i caused of the darling hispanic boy.
